‘Yes, you won R50 000’

GoWest! hosted a competition in which R50 000 was up for grabs.

“Yes, Job, you won R50 000.”

The News had to convince Job Lentswe he indeed had won the GoWest! Heritage Month competition and is R50 000 richer.

GoWest! hosted a competition in which R50 000 was up for grabs.

He continued believing it was a scam until he held the cheque in his hands.

“I saw an advertisement in the paper about a competition. All I had to do was send an sms to the given number and tell them who my favourite GoWest! performer was,” Job explained.

Job voted for Mafikizolo and sent about 33 smses from two different numbers.

“I did not believe it when I got a phone call from the organisers, telling me I had won,” he said.

By Job winning, the artist he had voted for also won R50 000.

Job Lentwe still could not believe his luck in winning R50 000.

Theo Kgosinkwe from Mafikizolo said a portion of the winnings will be donated to a local charity.

The Mogale City-based, multiple South African Music Awards winner said the GoWest! Festival is all about exploring the West Rand and its rich cultural diversity.

“Through the GoWest! event we wanted the West Rand community to have a festival of their own, like the Cape Town Jazz Festival, Macufe in the Free State, Oppikoppi and others,” said Pascalina Kgoleng, West Rand District Municipality Councillor for Social Services.

Pascalina said they were thrilled with the turnout of community members who came in their numbers to the event. They hope even more people from outside the West Rand region would attend next year’s event.

Still in disbelief, Job met Theo when the cheque was handed over to him. Slowly he started to realise he indeed had won and his face lit up.

And what will Job do with the money?

“I want to build the house I have been asking from God for a long time,” he answered.
