The best in the province: top cops awarded

Even more awards were given to police officers and police staff at the annual Provincial Police Awards.

More police officers were recognised for their work at the Gauteng Province Police Awards recently (2 October).

One of the recipients have proved himself worthy of two police cluster awards and one provincial award. Constable Lucky Matome from Tarlton police station won Man of the Year at the provincial awards as well as the cluster awards. He also bagged the Communications Officer of the Year at the cluster awards.

“But it was not only my efforts that deserve these accolades, but also the efforts of my colleagues. We make a great team,” Lucky said of his win.

Out of the 142 police stations on Gauteng, being recognised as the best in out field, is a proper achievement.

Martie Mans, principal typist at Tarlton poice station, was also honoured with a provincial award of Administration Employee of the Year.

“I enjoy what I’m doing. I will never stop,” she said.

Martie not only manages the station’s administration duties, but also designs awareness pamphlets and edits the station newspaper.

Another winner, Constable NH Simali from the Magaliesburg police station, was recognised as the Best Detective in the cluster and in Gauteng.

“Detective Constable Simali is a very dedicated police officers and always goes the extra mile. Most of his investigations led to successful convictions and some were even sentenced to life imprisonment,” Constable Rebecca Phithi, Magaliesburg police spokesperson, said.

Most of the winners have served in the police for over a decade and plan on going even higher and even bigger.
