Driver hides in informal settlement after accident

Residents gathered to see the commotion after a vehicle was found overturned following an accident on Friday night.

CPF members of Sector 3 were called out after a Ford Lazer was found overturned metres away from the petrol station in Viljoen Street in Krugersdorp North.

On arrival at the scene around 8.30pm on 6 November, the driver, who sustained minor injuries, stood on the pavement alongside his overturned vehicle.

He claims he was at the petrol station that night to purchase milk, a cold drink and cigarettes.

He further stated that he drove around the block and as he turned into Viljoen Street he felt a bang and the next moment his vehicle was upside down.

The CPF 3 and 5 members were on the lookout for the other vehicle involved in the accident who sped away from the scene.

Some two hours later the driver of the Opel was located by CPF 5 members in the white informal settlement in Munsieville where he quickly parked his vehicle before going into hiding.

He was taken to the Krugersdorp police station where he was taken into police custody.
