Pump damaged; suburbs without water

Municipal workers are busy attending to the problem.

Parts of Krugersdorp are currently without water and the reason so far seems to be unclear.

According to a local DA ward councillor, Annette Fourie, last night’s heavy rain and lightning resulted in a water pressure pump being damaged. The News learned that suburbs Krugersdorp North, Kenmare and Noordheuwel currently have no water at all.

“But it mostly affects Noordheuwel,” she said.

“The pump was reset at 8am this morning, so the reservoir is busy refilling.”

Annette added that Mogale City was supposed to have noticed it when it happened last night, but realised it only after the reservoir’s levels were very low.

Nkosana Zali, Mogale City Local Municipality spokesperson, told the News the municipal technical team reported that a pump tripped due to lightning.

“Kenmare and surrounding areas will experience low water pressure. We apologise for any inconveniences caused,” he said.

The News urges its readers to refrain from using water unnecessarily until the reservoir has reached its capacity.
