Consulting Engineers commemorates World Aids Day

Wellness of employees is a critical area in any company.

Mogale City Local Municipality’s business partner Morad Consulting Engineering and project management company joined forces with the entire world to commemorate and address issues related to HIV/Aids.

The Monument-based company hosted a two-hour ‘HIV/Aids prevention and awareness’ workshop at its premises for its employees, with the view to empower its workforce on the health its workers.

Khosi Radebe, the Chief Executive of Morad Consulting Engineering said, “We are a company that is part of the larger universal community and ensure that we partake in initiatives that our government tries to instill to our people like the World Aids day which is celebrated world-wide.

“Also, celebrating World Aids day forms the core integral part of the company where in line with our HIV policy we believe in educating our staff members about the disease. Most importantly we want to emphasise that Morad consulting does not segregate HIV/Aids infected people. Lastly, observing this day forms part of our wellness campaign in the company.”

Radebe said this is the company’s first big campaign where external people were invited. However, they intends broadening the company’s scope.

“This is our first big campaign where we invited external people and we intend on continuously enlarging the scope but in the previous years we did observe the day through internal communication throughout the year,” Radebe added.

CareNet Consultants facilitated the session with more emphases on ‘causes, facts and myth, statistics and prevention strategies’ around HIV/Aids and Sexual Transmitted Diseases.

“The workshop was tailor made to suite our specific needs but in line with a general wellness day we also incorporated other ways of ensuring that our staff members are awarded the opportunity to test for other chronic diseases which perhaps they may overlook or not have time to go to the clinic for a routine checkup.

“We will also continue with our Occupational Health and Safety annual plan that our OHS committee have which includes a number of activities around health and safety issues in the company.”

Wellness of employees is a critical area in any company, and Morad Consulting are looking forward to address other wellness related areas.

“We have requested CareNet to supply us with recommendations on their report on what area should the company concentrate on as far as the wellness of our staff is concerned as we want to have fit and healthy personnel. We will definitely have more visits from the clinic in accordance to that recommendation and may include monthly visits.”

Radebe said the management of the company will ensure that they see to it that the health of their staff members continues to be a priority to the company by bringing the clinic to the people as well as supplying them with medication on those clinic day visits.

After workshop, the company employees and management gave consent and permission to be tested for HIV, glucose and cholesterol levels, Hypertension and Body Mass Index (BMI). BMI is a measurement of the body weight based on your height and weight.
