VIDEO: “I might die in my operation” – Caden
Caden prayed for his head to be as strong as steel and will now be getting a special metal piece replanted into his skull.
It is D-day for Caden Slabbert who is currently undergoing surgery today to replace a piece of his skull after he was hit with a brick in the head last year.
In April last year Caden’s skull was damaged when the vehicle he was travelling in, together with his father and sister, was hit with a brick.

According to Caden’s mom, Andriëtte Cooper, Caden’s wish was granted after praying for the past few months for his head to be as strong as the strongest steel.
On 11 January, Caden’s Neurologist informed Andriëtte that a special metal piece has been ordered for his head as they fear they might not be able to use his own skull.
Another challenge they are faced with is that if Caden’s body will accept or reject the piece of steel which will be planted into his head at the Clinton Hospital today.
Caden started his fist day of school this week at the West Rand School in Wentworth Park.
“Caden made buddies quickly at his new school. What a kind and warm welcome with a friendly atmosphere. The children there are all so sweet and unique,” Andriëtte described his first day back at school after he had spent most of last year recovering.
This morning Caden told his mom, “I might die in my operation,” moments before going in.
Caden was finally ready to go into surgery at 10.40am as the operation was delayed since 9am due to a shortage of blood for the operation.
“And there he says what’s been weighing on his mind all this time in his drowsy state. But I feel at total peace that he will come out of it totally fine,” Andriëtte said in a WhatsApp group message she created to keep everyone up to date with the operation today.

Caden’s Facebook page along with the newly added WhatsApp group were flooded with support messages from friends, family and the community who has followed his journey to recovery.
Another milestone for Caden this past month was when he celebrated his 9th birthday on 7 January.
