There seems to be a glimmer of hope for residents living close to illegal dumping sites.
The removal of the rubble site on Naudé Avenue that had resident like Mariki Grobler very worried, is scheduled for the week of 25 January.
The spokesperson for Mogale City Local Municipality, Nkosana Zali, told the News that this site is part of many rubble sites across Krugersdorp that are being attended to.
“Of course, we are eliminating illegal dumping sites that are popping up all over. Our teams have been tackling them,” he said.
Marikli told the News that more and more rubbish were being dumped on top of the rubble that was left there by contractors working on the upgrades of Krugersdorp West’s infrastructure a few months ago.
“We are eliminating these because not only do they cause discomfort for people in the city, they become rodent havens and then a health hazard. We consider everything including the fact that they undermine our city beautification efforts,” Zali concluded.
