The reason why you were stuck in traffic

Motorists can expect more traffic as the protesters refuse to stand down.

Many residents of Krugersdorp and surrounding areas had to find an alternative route to and from work this week following the ongoing protest action in Chamdor.

Tudor Road, which links Krugersdorp CBD to Chamdor, Roodepoort and Kagiso, has been closed since protest action erupted on Monday 25 January.

Motorists have now been forced to make use of the already busy intersection commonly known as the weekend robot intersection.

Where traffic would usually be backed up about a half a kilometre, motorists experienced a proper traffic jam at a normally flowing intersection.

The closure has resulted in the flow of traffic along Chamdor Road, Albertina Sisulu Road (Main Reef Road) and Voortrekker Road to triple.

This follows after residents of Soul City informal settlement took the streets to protest by means of throwing rocks and building a barrier wall with concrete pieces meant to be used to build the sidewalks.

Papi Motaung, spokesperson for Mogale City’s Traffic Department told the News that residents should make use of the new M13 road (see map) to avoid the congested traffic flow at the weekend robot intersection.

He also suggested that motorists should leave for work a few minutes earlier as delays are expect with the road still closed.
