Last week thousands of protesters from Munsieville’s informal settlement took to the streets to plead their case while leaving a path of destruction on their way to town.
Some were heavily armed with panga’s, cricket bats and other sharp objects as residents made their way through the streets of Krugersdorp to the Town Hall where they protested for better service delivery, housing, water and electricity from the local council.
In the bid to get better living circumstances, the protesters knocked over dustbins and scattered more litter in the streets. They even went as far as causing malicious damage to houses on their way.
Stop signs or whatever came in their way were not spared as the News received images of the damages done by the angry protesters.
When these residents decide to protest, the local Community Policing Forum patrollers jumped in to support police and Mogale City’s Public Safety and Traffic Department officials who were deployed to keep the angry crowd controlled.
Not even spaza shops and other municipal property were spared as they fought for housing and service delivery, which they also demand to be instated immediately.
“These residents aren’t dumb, they know the council will do anything now for votes and will continue pushing until voting day,” Amanda de Lange, leader of the Freedom Front Plus on the West Rand said.
