Man critically injured after falling on drill

A 66-year-old man was airlifted to hospital after being injured by a drill.

Paramedics from Netcare 911 rushed to a man’s aid after learning that he had injured himself with a drill.

Paramedics received a call-out of a man that had fallen from a height on 7 February at around 10.37am in Tarlton.

“Reports from the scene indicate that the man was standing on a crate to drill a hole into a wall, the crate collapsed causing the man to fall to the ground and land on the drill,” Chris Botha, Media Liaison Officer for Netcare 911 said.

On arrival at the scene the paramedics found the drill bit had lodged into the chest of the 66-year-old man which left him in a critical condition.

“Paramedics worked fervently to stabilise the man at the scene before they airlifted him with the Netcare one medical helicopter to a specialised facility in Johannesburg for further care,” Botha concluded.
