‘For it is in giving that we receive’

After reading about needy children in Munsieville, a local resident decided that she too wanted to help.

True to Saint Francis of Assisi’s message about the importance of giving, a News reader helped where it truly was needed.

After the News published an article about six children who received bags with school necessities from members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Parish in Munsieville, Tarlton resident Elmarie Krige felt that she also needed to help.

“I contacted the church and donated more uniforms and clothes to the needy children the church supported,” she said.

At the time pastor Nuvaraidzi Dube said that the church’s Prayer Men’s League identified needy children within the community and decided to help them with a pair of socks, a jersey and school shoes.

Pastor Dube said the church service was especially unique with Elmarie attending.

Nuvaraidzi said he was very grateful for Elmarie’s support and her interest in the church.

Elmarie decided to stay for the entire Sunday service on 31 January and said that it was so beautiful that she could not help but shed a few tears.

“They truly live their faith,” she said.

Nuvaraidzi said the church normally preached to the congregation and not those in need of the gospel, but “now we concentrate on those who need to hear the gospel.”

Some shirts, trouser, toiletries and towels later, Elmarie said she would like to continue to support community initiatives and encourage others to do so as well.

Elmarie wishes to remind people of the importance of helping fellow humans. She believes that if she has the means to enjoy three meals a day, surly she can help someone. The quote she lives by goes, “for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.”
