Sewerage pump breaks despite alleged court order
Mogale City has allegedly not abided by a court order granted to maintain a sewerage pump, but the pump has once again broken.
A sewerage pump that Mogale City Local Municipality allegedly was ordered by the court to maintain, has broken again.
“As far as I know the pump has been fixed, but the sewage spilled into the wetlands across the road,” Gwen Britz, the Steynesvlei-Northvale Ratepayer’s Association (SNRA) spokesperson, said.
“In 2005 the court ordered Mogale City to maintain the sewerage pump station, but now it has broken again,” she said.
The sewage spilled about three weeks ago and flowed for a day into the neighbouring wetlands where the municipality reacted by sucking up the sewage and fixing the pump.
“The pump has been fixed, but no attempt has been made to clean up the wetlands,” Gwen added.
It is not clear if the municipality will face legal repercussions because of the alleged court order granted in 2005.
The News has contacted Mogale City Local Municipality’s spokesperson for comment, but it was not yet received by the time the article was published.
