Wellness day to quell tardiness

The local hospital has added a wellness day to their weekly schedule.

On 24 February nurses and staff of Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital were treated to a day of sport. From netball to soccer and a fun walk, the staff all got the opportunity to breathe in a little fresh air.

“We started to notice that our staff take off from work regularly and when they are at work, they are tired constantly,” Sibusiso Mafethe, hospital spokesperson said.

“So we decided to have a wellness day where various stakeholders such as Virgin Active and the Government Employee Medical Aid Scheme (Gems) took the opportunity to talk to the staff about their lifestyles,” he said.

Financial institutions such as Sanlam and Old Mutual were there to inform the staff about ways to deal with financial constraints and how to save for a rainy day.

Staff from Tara Psychiatric Hospital in Johannesburg were invited to play soccer and netball against the local hospital teams. Dressed in blue and green, the teams kicked off their matches at 1pm with proud support from their colleagues on the sidelines.

“We have decided that every Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm, the staff will have the opportunity to practice a sport or exercise a bit,” Sibusiso told the News.
