‘I thought he was going to kill me’

"When I got there it was just blood everywhere."

Eight-year-old Jorden Davies had to be rushed to hospital after being bitten, for second time, by a dog in his neighbourhood.

After Sunday’s church service on 28 February, Davies asked his gran Sandy Kotzè, with whom he lives, if he may go and play with a friend a few houses from theirs on Potchefstroom Street.

The next moment Kotzè heard Davies screaming.

“When I got there it was just blood everywhere and he was holding his hand,” said Kotzè.

“The dog still had a rope around its neck when he charged at me. I thought he was going to kill me,” Davies told the News.

The dog, a Labrador crossbreed, allegedly belongs to a couple who lives in a garage on a property around the corner from Kotzè’s home.

Since the attack, the traumatised boy refuses to leave the yard without someone by his side.

Kotzè fears he will have to go for counselling to overcome his new-found fear of dogs.

Davies sustained a serious bite wound and has to receive six injections to treat it.

His hand could not be stitched up, because the doctor was worried the wound may become infected owing to its severity.

The News decided to approach the couple for comment about the incident, however, no one was home at this time except the dog, which viciously barked from the other side of the garage door.

Kotzè claimed she immediately notified the dog’s owners about the attack, but has not heard from them since.

“This dog is going to kill someone some day,” Kotzè concluded.

She opened a case at the Krugersdorp Police Station and it is being investigated.
