Drug dealers and prostitutes thrown out in the street

A sex worker opened up to the News and confessed her ‘sins’ after being thrown out of their dwelling by a local whistle blower, Cherlyn Tshabangu from the organisation Asilweni Cleaning Streets.

The evicted prostitute opened up to the News’ journalist in a conversation while seated on the pavement as her pimps made arrangements for them to be relocated.

She confirmed many of the community’s suspicions regarding the police’s involvement in the drug trade in Sivewright Street.

She told the journalist that some corrupt officers on the drug dealers’ payrolls bag up to R4 000 per week in bribes for protecting the dealers and for tipping them off when a raid is being planned.

Furthermore she confessed about the ‘knocking’ of clients, indicating that a dark headed young girl in Luipaard Street is the most successful knocker currently on the street.

She explains knocking as to where a girl will take a client into a house and get him comfortable before excusing herself to go fetch a condom.

Next a group of foreign nationals will overpower the client and rob him of his valuables and money before letting him go.

This is where the ‘police protection’ policy falls into place. When the clients go to the police station to report the matter, it is quickly swept under the rug.

The in-depth conversation was quickly interrupted after one of Sivewright Street’s ‘big shots’ arrived.

He tried to negotiate with Cherlyn about the eviction which quickly turned into a heated debate between the journalist and the drug dealer.

He showed no remorse whatsoever with regards to ruining the lives of young people and women and insisted that he only sold high quality narcotics.

The debate was unresolved as he suddenly had to leave after receiving a phone call.
