West Rand hunting ground for criminals
Local politician feels the CPF cannot keep doing the police's work.
Short on the heels of a recent television documentary about the drug abuse and prostitution in Krugersdorp , the town became a spate of violent murders.
“Krugersdorp and Randfontein has become a criminal’s hunting ground. What is of great concern is the fact that there is no visible police presence. Complaints of foreign nationals infiltrating this area and running lucrative dubious businesses are piling in and communities are left to fend for themselves and mainly have to rely on the Community Policing Forum’s (CPF) for assistance,” Amanda de Lange, Freedom Front Plus leader for the West Rand region, said.
What’s even more shocking to De Lange is the arrogance and total disregard for human life.
Following the recent brutal events in town, De Lange tried to get appointments with the station commanders of both the stations when she was allegedly informed that they are too busy to see her.
“The internal issue within South African Police Services have a devastating effect on the communities and the evidence lies in the increasing violent crimes and murders we experience in a once tranquil and safe urban area. Reports of bad service at stations are also on the increase. It is impossible to address this if station commanders avoid talks with politicians. I am therefor busy setting up a meeting with the newly appointed SAPS Provincial Commander, General De Lange. We will be requesting a high priority investigation into the local police affairs as well as a proper clean-up operation in Krugersdorp as well as Randfontein,” De Lange stated.
Although the CPF is a huge benefit to both the community and local police, De Lange feels they cannot take up the role of the police.
“It would have been a total disaster if we did not have the CPF’s to rely on in times of emergencies.
The police departments are going to have to step up their game. We will not tolerate the watered down policing and influx of criminals in our towns anymore. The West Rand was once one of the safest areas in Gauteng but are now taken over by criminal elements causing havoc in people’s lives.”
De Lange has vowed to take this matter to the Gauteng Legislature for immediate action.
