Drain blockage a headache

A blocked drain in Chamdor has a local business owner asking why nothing has been done to unblock and repair it.

Freddie Peyper, a business owner in Chamdor said he is tired of dealing with a blocked drain and white water flowing through his premises after the municipality did not respond to his complaints.

Peyper told the News he suspects the drain is blocked owing to another business dumping their waste into the water system.

“The water pushes up in the drain and overflows onto this property. A river of white water flows from it and towards other businesses,” he said.

The water has been flowing like this for a long time, Freddie said.
The water has been flowing like this for a long time, Freddie said.

Freddie said he has been battling this issue for nearly five years, but to no avail.

After the municipality was called out about four weeks ago, Freddie said he has had no feedback him and no-one inspected the issue.

The News contacted the business concerned and was told they go to extreme lengths to ensure their drains remain unblocked. They denied that their drains are blocked.

De Waal Venter, a ward councillor, said he had not received a complaint about the white water before, but that he would investigate the claims.

The News also contacted Mogale City Local Municipality spokesperson, Nkosana Zali, and is still awaiting comment.
