New shoes to help them stand tall

"We saw the need for sponsoring these pupils because we understand that most of them go to school barefoot."

The lives of 35 pupils attending Munsieville Primary School will never be the same again after they received school shoes from Good Samaritans last week.

The 35 pupils who are from the poverty-stricken areas of Mshenguville, Mayibuye, Pangoville and Munsieville, were the latest beneficiaries of a school-shoe donation project. The pupils were selected from a pool of more than 1 000.

The donation was made possible by Caroline Shabalala of McCarthy VW Westgate, Raymond Masango, an employee of the Gauteng Provincial Government and Mogale City Councillor Andy Mathibe.

Masango, deputy director at the Boekenhoutkloof Traffic College said, “Since 2012 we continuously identify children in need of assistance in communities and schools. With the help of councillor Andy Mathibe we were able to priorities Munsieville Primary School.

“In the process we approached Westgate VW McCarthy to sponsor 35 pairs of shoes. This is an ongoing project and we will be donating 60 pairs of school shoes – 30 to Rand Gold Primary School in Magaliesburg and 30 to a school in Swanieville in Kagiso.”

Caroline reiterated they are proud to give back to their communities, more so, needy pupils.

“We saw the need for sponsoring these pupils because we understand that most of them go to school barefoot. We hope that their parents will be happy with this donations and that the pupils will cherish the gifts and go to school well dressed.”

The school principal Judith Mkhize was equally happy and thanked the donors for bringing smiles on the faces of the children.

The Munsieville shoe-donation project follows another donation by the former Jomo Cosmos player, Sammy Magalefa, who also donated more than 40 pair of shoes to Thusong Primary school in Kagiso.
