After years of water streaming down the road and numerous complaints by residents, the submersible pump on Voortrekker Road, near Burger Box, is allegedly being replaced by Mogale City Local Municipality, the News learned.
On Tuesday (29 March), the News witnessed contract workers “replacing” the pump, which is situated a few metres below ground. The manhole cover was opened and various instruments were suspended above the pump inside the manhole.
The pump, according to DA councillor Annette Fourie, has been the root of many leakage problems for many years.

The News received various complaints about the continuously running stream of water down Voortrekker Road going towards Krugersdorp. The stream of water has also been the cause of a few potholes and road damage.
“I have not yet confirmed with the municipality that the replacement is being done, but the fixing of this problem is long overdue,” Annette added.
The News will update its readers on the cost of the replacement as soon as more information comes to light.
The News is also still awaiting comment from Mogale City’s spokesperson, Nkosana Zali.
