The Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site recently launched the first ever Local Tourism Association for business owners in the area.

Businesses in and around Muldersdrift and the Cradle of Humankind can now be found under one roof, one app and on one website.

This comes after The Cradle tourism company Local Tourism Association (LTA), an independent non-profit organisation to help drive tourism in the Cradle of Humankind was launched officially on Thursday, 31 March.

Under the guidance of chairperson Gilbert Hickman, as well as a board of tourism representatives from the region, the association will promote tourism at local hotels, restaurants and businesses.

By means of the website, visitor information for the various activities, family hot spots, hotels, restaurants, venues, cultural and historic destinations are easily accessible to any and all who want to travel to the area.

“This has always been a very close community and we will endeavour to encompass all stakeholders so that it is a win-win situation for the area. We would like to ensure that local businesses are viewed as preferred suppliers and work with the Cradle of Humankind Management Authority and it’s supporting sister agency, the Gauteng Tourism Authority,” he said.

Hickman said owners can also be a Cradle of Humankind LTA member. The association will be an assurance to visitors that anyone carrying the stamp will have passed certain quality criteria to ensure they offer an experience befitting of a world heritage site.

Adrian Amod, director of brand management for the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, as well as a member of the Muldersdrift Communication Action Group (MCAG), said he welcomed the launch of the LTA.

“This area has incredible tourism potential – not only because of its world heritage status, but also because of the diversity of the tourism offering. It is in fact one of the fastest-growing tourism hubs in Gauteng and with the launch of the long-awaited [association], the broader area is bracing itself to host increased numbers of international and [local) visitors from all walks of life,” he said.
