More than 20 schools were torched in the Vhembe District in Limpopo last week and Krugersdopers say the pupils’ futures are also being burned.
Sowetan Live reported that the destruction of schools began on Sunday after Vuwani residents in the Vhembe district met to discuss a high court ruling that dismissed their opposition to the Municipal Demarcation Board’s 2014 decision to incorporate them into the Malamulele Municipality.

Eyewitness News reported that Parliament said those who are vandalising and burning schools are not only depriving young people of an education, but also disrespecting the country’s democracy.
Krugersdorpers had their say on a Facebook poll:
“It’s very sad, sad too that people feel that they need to resort to destruction, vandalism and violence to have their voices heard by the ruling party,” Jane Dawson said.
Pieter Roets said “Let’s burn the schools. Burn your future. While your acts destroy you and your children’s future, stay behind in life while I will build mine.”
Stephan Oosthuizen said “They stay in the dark ages with limited schooling and knowledge. Those poor kids are behind already. How doe these vandals think?”
“Stupid idiots, no thinking about tomorrow or their children’s futures. Rather burn Nkandla down if you want to make a statement. Although it makes me anger it is very sad.” Angela MacGillivray said.
21 people, connected to the destruction of the schools last week, will be appear in court on charges of public violence.
