Will this put a stop to the many deaths?
New traffic signs put up less than a month after another accident claimed two lives on the 'road of death'.
Less than a month after two women died in an horrific accident on the N14, a decision has finally been made to implement more safety measures on the infamous ‘road of death‘.
Last week, high accident zone signs, speed limit signs, stop signs and warning signs were erected at the N14/Randfontein/Ventersdorp road four-way stop. This intervention was the result of collaboration between the Mogale City Traffic Department and the Provincial Roads Department. It aims to reduce the number of horrific accidents on this road.

The speed limit signs on the approach to the intersection indicate to motorists to reduce their speed from 80km/ph to 60km/ph. Large new stop signs, which the authorities had hoped would be impossible to overlook or ignore, have been erected at all four points of the intersection.
However, on a visit to the site with Mogale City Traffic Department’s spokesperson, Papi Motaung, the News witnessed more than a handful of motorists speeding past the stop signs, without yielding or stopping properly. The presence of a traffic officer at the intersection had no effect at all on them.
It was not hard to see why accidents happen as another vehicle overtook the News and Motaung, who were driving at 80km/ph. The other vehicle quickly disappeared.

Do you feel that these safety measures are enough to curb the accidents on the ‘road of death’ in which countless lives are lost? Should the authorities do more? Leave your comment in the section below, or visit the Facebook page.
