An opportunistic thief leisurely strolled down the street with a flat screen TV on his head, thinking he’d hit the jackpot. But vigilant patrol officers quickly made him realise he’s just a common criminal.
A sector 8 CPF patroller was on his way to work when he noticed a suspect carrying a flat screen TV on his head at about 11.30am on 8 June.
The suspect immediately dropped the flat screen TV on the ground and started running after the patroller spotted him walking down the street.
The patroller made a u-turn when the suspect dropped the TV and started to chase after him when he made a run for it.
The patroller called for back-up and along with a Dowry Reaction Unit officer the suspect was cornered in.
The officer tackled the suspect and put him under citizen’s arrest.
Marcel Jonker from Dowry said the suspect told him he found the TV lying on the side of the road.
After minutes of negotiations, the suspect took the patrollers to the house where the goods were stolen from in Africana Street in Breaunanda.
On arrival at the house the patroller and the reaction officer met with the owners who were not even aware of the burglary.
The suspect also had a bag containing break-in paraphernalia along with stolen goods with him.
Among the stolen goods were a hair straightener, cellphone chargers, a flashlight, Super M milkshakes, cold drinks, a bottle of brandy, cookies and even deodorant.
The stolen goods were handed back to its rightful owners and the police were called for the suspect.
