Commissioner Street chaos

Residents are fed up with the racing demons of the night.

High revs and the sound of brakes, mixed with alcohol are the biggest problems for residents living in Commissioner Street.

At exactly 3 minutes before midnight on the night of 9 June, residents living in the flats on Commissioner Street in Burgershoop were rudely awakened by the sound of a vehicle crashing through a brick wall.

“I heard a loud bang, got up and saw the vehicle burning,” a resident told the News.

Residents ran towards the burning vehicle and immediately starting pouring water on it.

Mogale City’s Emergency Management Services, along with an emergency reaction unit, rushed to the scene where the passenger, who was still stuck in the vehicle, had to be freed by means of the Jaws of Life.

The driver was allegedly thrown from the vehicle by the impact of the crash.

The residents of the flats are fed up with the race demons who do as they please on this section of road. According to them, drag racing, speeding and drunk driving increases especially over the weekend.

“I wish we could do something about this. Can we not get speed humps here?” she asked the News.
