BAT hijacker among 248 arrests made
Busy week for West Rand Cluster Police who made a staggering number of arrests.
The West Rand Cluster Police can boast with a total of 248 arrests made in one week, including that of one suspect involved in the hijacking of a British American Tobacco (BAT) van.
The arrest of a hijacker who was found in possession of a stolen BMW and six firearms is a prime example of the arrests, all made in various crime prevention operations in the area.
“This suspect was later positively linked to the BAT hijacking that took place in Witpoortjie on 17 June,” Hekpoort Police spokesperson, Constable Gloria Maswanganye said.
Other crimes that landed suspects behind bars range from rape, robbery, theft, possession of stolen property and assault, to illegal mining and shoplifting. Less serious infringements, including the arrests of undocumented foreign nationals and incidents of intimidation were also dealt with.
The Cluster Commander, Major General Anna Mateisi expressed her appreciation towards all the role players who positively contributed to these successes.
“It should now be obvious to every person, especially the criminal element operating in this cluster, that we will police, we will protect and we will prosecute any person who breaks the law in the cluster,” Mateisi said.
