Injured girlfriend hops to neighbours for help
A 25-year-old man and his girlfriend were shot in an early morning robbery incident.
The limping girlfriend of Jason le Roux hopped over a kilometre to get help after intruders shot them both in the early hours of Youth Day.
Le Roux and his girlfriend had a rude awaking when two armed men entered their home in Lammermoor, in Muldersdrift, at about 3.30am on 16 June.
“The 26-year-old victim and his girlfriend were asleep in their house on a plot when they were attacked by two unknown men, both armed,” Muldersdift Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Hitler Ngwenya said.
It is believed the intruders forced the door open and went directly to the victims’ bedroom where they pointed a firearm at them, demanding money and other household items.
“Le Roux told the intruders that they didn’t have any money, upon which the intruders shot him multiple times in the upper body. Le Roux’s girlfriend was also shot, in the lower body, but she managed to escape, and alerted their neighbours.”
By the time she returned, it was too late to help Le Roux – he’d already succumbed to his wounds.
A message was sent to the News by a friend of Le Roux, who described the incident as a senseless death. He said:
“I have been looking on the news to see if it came up and it hasn’t and I was hoping that this page would tell the story because it deserves to be told. He was killed in the most senseless way but died a hero and I feel that people should know. My friend was 25 and living with his girlfriend who is 19. They woke up to a noise in the house and when he went to go and check he was shot in the chest twice by three men, all armed. They took him back to their bedroom where he begged for his asthma pump as he couldn’t breathe. They proceeded to shoot him, twice in the chest and his girlfriend in the leg. She limped out and went to their nearest neighbour who was about 1km away to get help, and by the time she got back, he was dead. She is alive and in hospital but he has died at the hands of senseless brutality.”
It is believed that suspects not only ransacked the house – the message sent to the News indicates that Le Roux’s jewellery was also stolen off his body.
“The intruders made off with electrical appliances and other household items. It is believed that they fled the scene on foot. Le Roux was declared dead on the scene when paramedics arrived. His girlfriend was taken to a hospital for medical treatment. A case of house robbery and murder has been opened, and is under further investigation,” Ngwenya concluded.
Muldersdrift Police are on the lookout for two unknown male suspects and urge the community not to confront them as they are deemed to be extremely dangerous.
Any information regarding the incident can be given to detective Sergeant Sam Manana on 011 952 4600.
