Karate kids kick it up

The Krugersdorp Karate Club won medals at the recent SAJKA tournament.

The karate kids of the Krugersdorp Karate Club KKC again brought home a handful of medals.

Six students of the club recently won a total of six bronze, one silver and two gold medals at the South African Japan Karate Association Championships.

The Championships was hosted at the Standard Bank Arena in May and saw the best of the best from all provinces competing for the ultimate title and medals.

Over 2 000 students from all over South Africa went head to head in the two-day tournament.

Some of the winners were:

• Lelani Viviers – two bronze

• Josslyn Botes – two bronze

• Danè Visser – gold

• Dayton Rushmer – gold

• Juandre Pieterse – two bronze

• Claudia Correia – one silver

“To have achieved a medal at this level of the competition is an outstanding achievement. We are looking forward to and training hard for next year’s tournament,” Sensei Leon van Niekerk said.
