Members of the Kagiso Crime Prevention squad have arrested three suspects for impersonating police officers, following a tip-off from the community.
The three suspects, aged between 26 and 38, were arrested at 9am on 22 June.
The arrests followed a tip-off from an informant in Swanieville an hour earlier.
“The source told the police that the suspects were driving around pretending to be police officials from Johannesburg. He further said that the suspects had already arrested two men and had parked next to a well-known tavern,” Kagiso Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said.
The police followed the information and noticed a vehicle with three occupants who positively matched the descriptions given by the source.
“The police pounced on them and ordered them out of the car. Once they introduced themselves, the suspects also identified themselves as police officials but failed to produce their appointment cards. One of the suspects produced a wallet with a police emblem on. They were then all arrested.”
A case docket of impersonating police officials has been opened at the Kagiso Police Station and police investigations have been intensified.
“We can bring crime to its knees and make a difference if we work together with our communities,” said Kagiso’s Station Commander, Brigadier Sipho Ngubane.
