[PICS] A swinging success for the CPF
"We want to place cameras at strategic hot spots to assist the patrollers and police when the criminals run away."
The Community Police Forum (CPF) Sector 3 hosted a fun-filled golf day which served as a fundraiser for the volunteer association.
“We are in desperate need of funds to assist us to ensure a safe, crime-free area. Everything we do is on a voluntary basis. Our patrollers use their own vehicles and give up their time in order to patrol the area and assist in crime prevention. We have 15 Level 3 First Aiders, who have been very active at accident scenes and have attended to various other medical situations.
“The first aid bags have to be replenished after every scene, and there are other community-based projects for which funding is required. We want to place cameras at strategic hot spots to assist the patrollers and the police when the criminals run away,” said Piet Sparks, chairperson of the Sector 3 CPF.
The day, which was hosted on 2 August at the Krugersdorp Golf Club, was filled with fun and games, with three of the holes set up for various games the golfers could play, namely marshmallow shoot, nearest to the pin and longest drive.
There were also loads of prizes up for grabs, ranging from paintings to vouchers. Roelof Loodt, a member of the CPF, said that the prize-giving would be a lot like an episode of Oprah.
Seventy-two golfers, many of whom were members of the CPF, competed in the golf day. But there could only be one winner, or in this case, two: Jaco Lubbe and Gerhard van Staden.
