Krugersdorp hosts Legends

Krugersdorp Golf Club played host to several sporting legends last week Friday.

SA Security hosted its first Legends’ Golf Day in Krugersdorp on Friday, 5 August.

The day featured sporting legends such as Brian Mitchell, the 14-time World Boxing Champion; Kallie Knoetse, another champion boxer; Hannes Strydom, former Springbok rugby player; Lappies Labuschagné, Transvaal rugby legend; Thys Lourens, a Bulls and Springbok rugby legend; and Willem Stohlz, Pietie Meyer, Deon Viljoen and Straatkat van Zyl, from the Lions.

The dinner and prize-giving also served as a fundraising platform for Joost van der Westhuizen, with various sporting memorabilia being auctioned off in order to assist him and his J9 Foundation.

In a video that was shown at the dinner, one could see an extremely frail Joost accompanied by Johan Visser, who has been Joost’s caregiver for the last five years.

In the video, Johan thanks everyone on Joost’s behalf, and says that Joost is still in high spirits, despite his condition.

According to SA Security, the day was a huge success as 124 golfers participated, and they will definitely look into making this an annual event.
