Homeless orphan to get help

Kgotlello Leso tried living on the streets but wanted to continue with his schooling.

For many homeless children, living on the streets is their only option. But one boy feels its not the last resort and believes the community can help him.

Kgothlello Leso needs help to find a home after being forced to leave the home of a relative after a family dispute.

The high school pupil initially lived with his grandmother after his mother died, but as she got older and became unable to care for him, Kgotlello was forced to move from one family member’s house to the next.

To date, Kgothlello has lived in three homes that belong to family members but he has not found a place where he belongs. He was forced to leave the last home he lived in after a dispute with a family member.

He tried living on the streets, but decided against it because it would have prevented him from continuing his schooling. He was rescued by a community member who has given him shelter for the past two weeks.

Kgothlello does not want to return to his family, because he feels that they have hurt him too much. He would rather live in a shelter.

“I want to be a policeman when I grow up,” he told the News.

He is still in touch with his grandmother, who occasionally helps him out with pocket money, but she is unable to provide him with a place to live.

Councillor Emily Mathe, MMC of Health and Social Services in Mogale City, said that Kgothlello’s school, working with the relevant ward councillor, should attend to the issue.

“The ward councillor must be involved to prevent this boy from getting distracted at school. I will call the boy and get social workers involved,” she told theĀ News.

The councillor for Ward 13, Gilbert Gaselebeloe, has promised to follow up on the issue.
