Meet Krugersdorp’s Miss Heritage Gauteng
Local girl, Sherianne Pillay, is the first ever Miss Heritage Gauteng.
Beating hundreds of women in Gauteng and impressing a team of four judges, Sherianne Pillay has been crowned Miss Heritage Gauteng.
The 22-year-old from Breaunanda says her victory has not sunk in yet. The crowning took place on Saturday, 7 August at KCC La Vie en Rose in Johannesburg.
“Although it was lots of fun and exciting, I didn’t think I could win the pageant,” Sherianne told the News. Sherianne will join other provincial Miss Heritage winners in September to compete for the Miss Heritage South Africa title. Although she is excited about that event, she’s trying not to be over-confident. Whoever is crowned Miss Heritage South Africa will then compete in the Miss Heritage Global pageant.

Sherianne says that the pageant was not all glamour – it took lots of hard work too. She looks forward to promoting heritage throughout her reign by fusing two of the things that she particularly likes, namely visiting heritage sites and doing charity work. She wants to merge the two so that she can make a positive difference in her own way.
“We don’t know our roots as South Africans. We learn so much about each other as individuals but not about our cultures and where we come from. I am always asking my grandmother where I come from because I am curious about my roots and my heritage,” said Miss Heritage Gauteng.
The fourth-year law student encouraged young people who are interested in the pageant to enter.
“Go for it! Be yourself and run your own race. Never compare yourself to other contestants,” she said.
