Invasion of the Nerds – for Hope
Nerds give Hope to the community by filling their Beetles.
The staff of a local IT service company, who refer to themselves as nerds, recently opened their hearts and their Beetles to collect donations in aid of a local women’s charity.
Nerds on Site decided to give back to the community by filling their cheeky red Beetles with non-perishable goods.
Their project was inspired by the success other Nerds on Site’s offices abroad had with their annual food drive called Fill the Beetle.
The Nerds displayed their Beetles at Princess Crossing where they collected groceries for the children at the Tjokkertjies vir Jesus preschool, established by The Cradle of Hope, a ministry focusing on assisting women and children in desperate need.
The school provides 52 less fortunate and vulnerable children with warm, healthy, cooked meals on a daily basis.
The nerds drove to The Cradle of Hope in a convoy where they dropped off all the donations of the day.
The groceries included sugar, milk and even toilet paper.
“We are so grateful; something like toilet paper makes a big difference,” founder of The Cradle of Hope, Melodie van Brakel said.
The nerds have decided to fill their Beetles again next year in aid of hope.
“Thank you to each and every person who helped fill the Beetles and made the day a success. It was a blessing to see how thankful the Cradle of Hope was for the donations,” Jaco Coetsee concluded.
