Landlord arrested for murder of tenant
An argument between a landlord and his tenant resulted in murder.
A 37-year-old landlord from Rietvallei has been arrested following the murder of his 29-year-old tenant during the weekend of 20 and 21 August.
It is alleged an argument broke out between the landlord and his tenant inside their yard on 21 August in Rietvallei at about 11pm.
When police arrived on the scene, they found the landlord and the murder weapon – a knife.
“The landlord told the police that an argument ensued after the tenant refused him the use of the electricity. The suspect alleged that his tenant had bought electricity but would not allow him to use it,” Kagiso Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said.
When the landlord decided to cut the connection off, the tenant became angry and allegedly attacked him.
The tenant sustained a stab-wound to the chest and was certified dead on the scene by paramedics.
The landlord was arrested and has been detained at the Kagiso Police station, where a case docket of murder has been registered.
The suspect is due to appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court during this week.
