Update: Murder suspect’s bail application postponed
The case was postponed for a second time and he will reappear in court on 5 September.
Members of the ANC Youth League and Sanco protested in front of the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court for the second time this week after the bail hearing of a murder suspect was postponed once again.
Tshepo Chauke was accused of murdering his girlfriend, Ayanda Zwane on 19 August in their home in Kagiso and burning her body in the trunk of her car on the same day.
He initially filed for bail on 29 August, but the hearing was postponed until 1 September due to alleged scheduling conflicts. The case was then postponed for a second time and he will reappear in court on 5 September.
“Look me in the eyes,” Queen Zwane shouted in court after the postponement of the hearing to 8 September. “It was my daughter you murdered.” Chauke avoided her gaze and descended the stairs back to his cell.
The case was then postponed for a third time. Chauke will reappear in court on 8 September.
