Womens’ Month murder suspect denied bail

Tshepo Chauke has yet again failed to convince the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court that his bail application should be approved. Chauke appeared before Magistrate Page this morning (8 September) for his third bail hearing. His attempt for bail failed again as he allegedly didn’t make a strong enough case.
Chauke is being accused of murdering his 37-year-old girlfriend Ayanda Zwane on Friday, 19 August after an alleged fight. He allegedly put Ayandas’ body into the boot of her vehicle and bought five litres of petrol at a petrol station. He later parked the vehicle in a veld at the side of the road and allegedly used the petrol and a match to set it alight. Her remains – barely recognisable – were later discovered by Krugersdorp Police.
Members of the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) and Sanco protested in front of the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court during all three his bail hearings and are satisfied with the magistrate’s decision.
“Members attending the court case nodded in agreement to the magistrate’s verdict,” said George Xolelizwe, chairperson of the Zonal Structure and member of Sanco .
Zama Mtengwane, Zwane’s aunt said they are saddened by the fact that they know this is not the end.
“There is still a long journey ahead of us and I fear that my niece’s children will suffer due to the long bail process,” she said.
Chauke will remain in custody until 11 October when he can apply for bail again.
