Five arrested for allegedly slaugtering cow
"None of the suspects wanted to associate themselves with the parts of the cow."
Five suspects were arrested on Thursday, 22 September for livestock theft.
A member in one of the Tarlton Police sector vehicles allegedly spotted the suspects travelling in a khaki GWM double-cab bakkie near Waterval Plots, Tarlton.
He immediately called for backup and the sector police followed the vehicle to Randfontein CBD where it was pulled over.
“Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered pieces of a slaughtered animal,” Constable Lucky Matome, Tarlton Police spokesperson said.
“The suspects denied knowing anything about it.”
Tarlton Police launched a preliminary investigation, which led them to an open field in the Hillside Plots area.
They discovered the slaughtered cow’s head severed from its body.
Anton Lombaard, owner of the slaughtered cow expressed his satisfaction with Tarlton Police’s good work.
“Although I suffered a loss, I’m happy with the manner in which the police handled the matter,” Lombaard said.
The value of the cow is estimated at R7 000.
Lieutenant Colonel Tsoaedi, Tarlton Police station commander applauded the officers for always being vigilant.
The suspects will appear in court soon.
