Mindalore, smelly no more
Thanks to an amazing response by the municipality, the Mindalore spruit no longer reeks of sewage.
The spruit running parallel with Thornton Street has been a problem for the past year, as residents had to contend with sewage and other unmentionables in and around the spruit.
Jimmy Erasmus, a resident on the street, took it upon himself to get the municipality to take care of the mess, and after getting in contact with a local ward councillor a month before the local municipal elections, he was able to get the ball rolling.
“I contacted Lynn Pannall three weeks before the elections and told her about the state of the spruit. She said she would do something about it,” Jimmy said.
True to her word, a month later the stench and mess have been cleared.
Brendan May, another local ward councillor, was called in to assist, and with the help of Alex and Micheal Stutler an excavator was brought in to narrow and deepen the spruit, although these repairs are just a temporary solution.
