Baby dies after being flung out of vehicle

It is believed the rolling of the vehicle caused the baby and adult to be ejected and land outside the vehicle.

A baby and an adult died after allegedly being flung out of their overturning vehicle during a incident on the N14 near Brandvlei, on Monday 3 October. ER24 paramedics arrived on scene at about 10pm and discovered the vehicle lying in the middle of the road.

It appeared that the vehicle had overturned several times before coming to a standstill. It is believed the turning of the vehicle caused the baby and adult to be ejected and land outside the vehicle. The paramedics found that nothing could be done to save the baby or the adult, both of whom were declared dead on scene. According to the paramedics, the baby seemed approximately four months old.

It is believed the vehicle had five occupants at the time of the incident. The survivors of the incident said the driver of the vehicle had left the scene before the emergency medical personnel arrived. It is not clear if he sustained any injuries. The remaining three occupants, two men and a woman, were found inside the vehicle. It is believed they sustained various injuries such as scrapes, bruises and possibly neck and back injuries. The occupants were assessed on scene and later transported to Carletonville Hospital.

The cause of the incident is not yet known. The incident was handed over to the Tarlton police who attended the scene. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the incident.
