Update: One critical, five injured in Tarlton crash
The cause of the accident is not yet known.
One man was critically injured and five other people were moderately injured in a head-on collision on the R24 near Tarlton Raceway on Tuesday, 4 October.
ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after 1pm, and found two badly damaged vehicles.
One occupant was trapped inside one of the vehicles and had to be extricated by rescue personnel. Paramedics assessed one of the patients and realised he was in a critical condition. He was loaded into a Netcare 911 helicopter and transported to hospital for further medical attention. The remaining patients were treated by various emergency services’ personnel on scene and transported to hospital in ambulances.
The cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed, but it is believed that one of the drivers lost control of his vehicle and swerved into the oncoming traffic. An oncoming vehicle then collided with the first vehicle. One of the vehicles involved was an Audi, while the other was a single-cab bakkie. Both vehicles seemed to be written off. The section of the road was closed off for approximately three hours as paramedics worked tirelessly to assist the injured.
Local authorities were on scene investigating the cause of the collision.
