Scholar patroller hit by car while on duty

Adult scholar patroller, Tshidi Kolwane was hit by one of the cars she was supposed to protect pupils from.

Scholar patrollers are supposed to help pupils cross the road safely, prevent accidents and ensure that motorists adhere to the rules of the road while pupils make their way to school.

Adult scholar patroller, Tshidi Kolwane was hit by one of the cars she was supposed to protect pupils from. On the morning of Thursday,13 October Tshidi reported for duty at her usual spot along Otlega and Kutlwanong Road.

All was well until a taxi made a U-turn in front of another car. The driver of the car lost control and it hit Tshidi and another pedestrian who was crossing the road. Tshidi and the unknown pedestrian sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.

In early September, the News interviewed Tshidi who complained about motorists not respecting her while she is on duty.

“I feel as if I do not have any authority because motorists do not respect me or follow my instructions,” she told the News.
