Eleven lucky to escape collision without injuries

There were no critical injuries and the patients were transported to various hospitals for medical observation only.

A mini-bus taxi carrying 11 passengers collided with another vehicle on Albertina Sisulu Road near the Witpoortjie railway station on Friday, 21 October.

It is suspected that the woman driving a Mazda tried to make a u-turn across the road. An oncoming mini-bus taxi then collided with the Mazda. The collision happened at about 7pm.

The road and pavement was scattered with occupants after the collision. Only one sustained serious injuries which included fractures of the femur and tibia (thigh and calf bone). His ankle was also injured.

“To give you an idea of the impact; it takes about three tons of pressure to break a femur bone,” Karl Prinsloo, independent medical practitioner said.

The patients were transported to various hospitals for medical observation.
