Oil spillage on Paardekraal Drive
Drivers asked to proceed with caution.
A large amount of oil was spilled on Paardekraal Drive between Luipaard and Pretoria Streets at about 2.30pm on the afternoon of 26 October.
Motorists have since been playing a game of slip and slide as their vehicles drift over the slippery surface. A few motorists became worried that collisions might occur, so the local Community Policing Forum (CPF) was contacted.
CPF Sector 4 patrollers arrived on scene shortly afterwards and barricaded two lanes to ensure the oncoming traffic did not drive over the oil spill.
The CPF covered most of the oil with sand and soon the Krugersdorp Fire Department arrived on scene to assist in the last stages of coverage and the oil was covered speedily.
“Although most of the oil has been covered with sand, motorists returning home are still warned to proceed with caution,” said Papi Motaung, spokesperson for the Krugersdorp Traffic Department. “Drive slowly over the covered oil to ensure you don’t lose control of your vehicle,” he concluded.
