Plans to rejuvenate Sivewright Street and surrounds take shape

A new Krugersdorp awaits as the municipality’s plan to rejuvenate the inner city takes shape.

Mogale City’s Executive Mayor, Lynn Pannall, members of the mayoral committee and a number of municipal officials went out to assess the state of Sivewright Street and surrounds in preparation for the Urban Development Zone.

Locals have been complaining about the problematic street which is regarded as a hive of drugs, prostitution and criminal activity in Krugersdorp.

Last month, the Mayor announced that she was in talks with relevant stakeholders to investigate solutions to the decay that was taking place in the inner city and she was also in the process of establishing the inner city rejuvenation program.

It was during that time that they identified houses that facilitate socio-economic problems in the area. The Mayor and her team vowed to take action to clean up the area and notify the owners of the identified properties of their intentions.

“We need to ensure that we are not chasing a moving target in that area, therefore I will be working with the MMC for Local Economic Development, Chris van der Westhuizen, to investigate the development of an urban development zone which will ensure sustainable development and give a much needed face-lift to the area,” said Mayor Lynn.
