Arrested after being on the run for nine years

The Kagiso Police have arrested a 49-year-old suspect for a murder she committed nearly nine years ago.

It is alleged the woman stabbed another during an argument in March 2007. The police describe the circumstances of the argument as being serious and violent. The suspect allegedly drew a knife during the argument and stabbed the deceased in the upper body once. An eyewitness then called paramedics who arrived on scene moments later.

The victim unfortunately died on her way to hospital.

It is believed the two women lived on the same property and leased apartments in Kagiso Extension 12.

The suspect was arrested later in that week and detained at Kagiso Police Station where she was charged with one count of murder.

She later appeared briefly in court where she applied for bail, which was granted on condition that she would appear in the same court a week later. The suspect did not show up for the court case and a warrant for her arrest was filed.

Police searched tirelessly for her for years after her disappearance, and even went as far as Hekpoort, but could not locate her. It was clear the suspect had used her sudden freedom to jump bail and disappear.

Recently however, the Kagiso Police received information about the whereabouts of the suspect. These leads led police to Zeerust, Northwest, where they located the suspect.

Detective Warrant Officer Mshiyeni Ngcobo and detective Constable Slatuwani Muthala drove to her location and arrested her. The detectives transported the suspect to the Kagiso Police Station where she was detained until her court appearance. She appeared briefly in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court recently and was remanded in custody for further investigation.
