Consol spreads some #Milkstachsmiles
Each visit elicited much excitement among the residents who seldom receive visitors – much less gifts.
From Northriding to Krugersdorp, Pretoria and many stops in between, Consol Glass has been spreading #MilkStacheSmiles while handing out special Consol bottles filled with farm fresh milk to old age and children’s homes in Gauteng. The Bethany House Trust in Monument – a non-government organisation – was included in the feel-good campaign. It is ‘change for good’ initiatives such as this that help sustain the residents and caregivers and keep their spirits up.
The 12 charities Consol visited were nominated by the glass manufacturer’s social media fans in a #BringBackPure milk bottle campaign. An extension of the group’s 70th birthday, it was decided to supplement the deliveries with cupcakes – after all no celebration is complete without fresh, home-baked cake.
To make it even more special, and nostalgic of the era when milk was delivered door to door by the milkman, the deliveries were fronted by Consol milkmen. Understandably, each visit elicited much excitement among the residents who seldom receive visitors – much less gifts.
According to Consol project spokesperson, Cleo Madini, the experience of meeting and connecting with the staff and children can only be described as humbling and it was a real privilege to meet so many inspiring people.
Glass packaging keeps what’s inside colder and fresher for longer and because it’s pure packaging, and contains no chemicals, it never alters the taste or purity of its contents – an important consideration when caring for vulnerable infants and children.
“Bethany House relies heavily on funding and support. They face real financial challenges and our milk deliveries provided nutritional relief, as well as sweet treats for people who are so seldom on the receiving end of a spoiling – timeless gifts that will keep on giving long after the milk is enjoyed,” said Madini.
Echoing what Madini said, the office manager at Bethany House, Reuben Sibanda, said, “Our children consume a large amount of milk every day. Purchasing fresh milk daily costs us on average R350 per day for 60 children. This donation will help us financially and we are most grateful for the support.”
Adding to this, Sibanda said that because of spiraling domestic violence, there is a desperate need for shelters like Bethany House.
“In the past year, we have assisted approximately 50 abused women and their children, offering them a safe haven and place of rehabilitation.”
Consol hopes that through this ‘change for good’ campaign, the company will have made a small difference to the women and young children who are cared for and housed at Bethany House.
