Couple wins new house
The Makhathinis are ushering in the new year with a brand new house and a cash prize after winning a Kaya FM competition.
A Kagiso couple started the festive season on a high note after winning a brand new house and some cash on Friday, 9 December.
“The Win a Home building package in Azaadville Gardens competition was launched in October and over the last two months Kaya FM has received entries from couples who were struggling to secure housing and shared their stories with us. They stood a chance of winning one of three home building packages worth R700 000. Five couples were selected and went through to a charity challenge in November.

Team Maphipha, Team Makhathini and Team Sibanda secured their spots in the final round, which was an Amazing Race-style time challenge,” said Mmathabo Tladi from Kaya FM.
The couples started the challenge at Protea Mall, where they had to solve puzzles in record time and then head to Leratong Hospital for a word search puzzle. Team Makhathini beat the other two couples by winning the first and the last rounds of the challenge at Azaadville.

“It was an exciting day and what I liked about this year’s giveaway is that we have taken it up a notch. The ‘amazing race’ took place in the wee hours of the morning to show our contestants there’s no traffic here,” said Thobani Xokozela, RBA Homes Sales manager.
While the couples dashed around completing challenges, Kaya FM radio show, 180 with Bob, did a live broadcast of the event and took listeners through the proceedings of the day.
“It’s been an amazing journey with RBA, its our third giveaway. At Kaya FM we are all about home, family and creating a better life for the Afropolitan and we are grateful to have RBA come on board in partnership with Kaya,” said Linda Reddy, Chief Operating Officer at Kaya FM.

Nerves, excitement and anticipation were the order of the day when Phatwa Makhathini selected the winning key and opened the door to her dreams. She and her husband won a house that is scheduled to be built in 2017 according to the housing package they chose.
Phatwa had entered the competition because her husband is a taxi driver and couldn’t afford to buy her a home.
“He feels very bad that his low income is unable to provide a home for us, but I want my husband to know that I will love him just as he is and for who he is,” said Phatwa. She also said that she was scared but told herself that whatever happened would be God’s will.
