Truck hijacked in Hekpoort

Police are on the lookout for a red VW that is alleged to be involved in the hijacking of a truck.

A truck was hijacked on Wednesday, 14 December on the R560 road in Hekpoort, and police need your help to find it.

As the 32-year-old truck driver was driving along, the driver of a red Volkswagen (VW) vehicle pointed underneath the truck to indicate that there was a problem.

The truck driver stopped and asked his passenger to investigate the alleged problem. The VW stopped in front of the truck.

Two men then climbed out of the VW and overpowered both the truck driver and his passenger, forcing them into their vehicle. One of the assailants then drove off with the truck and while the other drove the VW to Lanseria where the victims were held at gunpoint, and dropped off.

Hekpoort police have launched a manhunt for the two suspects and are appealing to the community to come forward with any information that could lead to an arrest. Captain Zwane, station commander of the Hekpoort Police Station is urging motorists not to stop when stopped by strangers.

“Rather go and stop at a public place or police station where there is safety in numbers. I would also like to urge community members to be cautious and take care of themselves during the festive season,”said Captain Zwane.
