Fraudulent ancestor whisperers exposed
The complainant claimed he saw an advertisement suggesting there was a service that he could use to multiply his money with the help of his ancestors.
Krugersdorp Police had success in dealing with a strange fraud case recently when they arrested three suspects in connection with a R35 000 scam.
The complainant claimed he had seen an advertisement in April 2016 about a service he could use to multiply his money with the help of his ancestors.
The complainant decided he wanted to visit these ancestor whisperers and went to their offices in Krugersdorp. When he started speaking to the alleged whisperers, they showed him money inside a box and promised he could have more of that money if he brought them R35 000. The complainant was convinced he would become rich instantly and made plans to get his hands on the R35 000 buy-in.

He went back home, convinced his wife and eventually the couple sold their vehicle and made a loan at a bank. The complainant took the money to the suspects. It is alleged the suspect instructed the complainant to buy special traditional coats in order for them to perform the cash-making rituals. He was promised that his money would be multiplied to R1 million in just a few months.
The complainant left the offices and waited. When the suspects failed to deliver on their promises, the complainant made many attempts to get his money back from the alleged scammers.
The suspects refused to pay him back and he decided to inform the Krugersdorp Police about the matter. The Krugersdorp Police went to the offices and found the place was decorated like a sangoma’s consulting room.
Police also discovered pictures, CVs and various documents describing people. It is believed the suspects used these documents to single out vulnerable victims. The suspects also had a large amount of fake R100 notes, which they allegedly used to lure unsuspecting victims into giving them money.
The suspects were arrested and are to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.
Krugersdorp Police appealed to the community to be vigilant for scammers and to come forward if they had been scammed in a similar manner.
