Boy arrested for alleged business robbery
The community managed to catch one of the suspects fleeing the scene of the robbery.
Kagiso Police arrested a 15-year-old boy in Kagiso Extention 3 on Wednesday, 11 January after he allegedly had helped to rob a business in the area.
It is alleged the complainant, who is a foreign national and owner of the business, was inside his shop when he noticed three unknown men approaching.
He became suspicious and tried to lock the door to keep them from entering the shop. One of the suspects pulled out a firearm and fired a shot to prevent the complainant from locking the door. The complainant kept the door open and to his surprise, two more suspects appeared and entered the shop.
The suspects ransacked the shop, allegedly stealing airtime, cash and cartons of cigarettes. The owner then screamed for help and the startled suspects fled the scene on foot. Members of the community heard the distressed screams and responded by chasing four of the suspects. They managed to catch one of the suspects – the 15-year-old – and contacted the police.
Police arrived on scene and arrested the suspect. They took him to the Kagiso Police Station where he was detained. He was later transferred to Walter Sisulu Child and Youth Rehabilitation Centre in Johannesburg.
Kagiso Police are appealing to community members to assist them by contacting them immediately if they have any information in connection with the crime. The Kagiso Police can be reached on 011 696 9059/ 9065/ 9070.
